St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital incepted its mission journey in 1971.On June 3rd 1971, St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital started its service in a small building. The first doctor was Dr. C.J Varghese and the director was Rev. Fr. Joseph Kachiramattam. In 1973 a registered charitable trust of Mananthavady Dioceses undertakes the hospital by the leadership of Jacob Nedumpallil.
Mananthavady Diocese has been in the forefront in delivery of better medical relief for the poor , implied by an abiding spirit of charity and keen interest for the welfare of the flock interested to their care and where medical care was almost beyond the reach of poor .The healing ministry of the church inspired by the healing power of Jesus Christ of course has influenced by Diocese, to dream about a healthcare center which can provide medical care to the poor and needy of near by places of various communities.
The major clinical departments of our hospital are general medicine, general surgery, ENT, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, family medicine ,and also providing OPD facility in cardiology, and physiotherapy and provide the facilities like emergency care unit, operation theater complex ,ICU complex and labour room round the clock.
Started in the early seventies as a small clinic with minimum facilities in view of providing basic medical services to the rural population of Mananthavady,St Joseph Mission Hospital has been a ray of hope for many a patient who could not afford expensive treatments. The dedicated and selfless service of its staff, especially the sisters of the various religious congregations, the priests of the diocese of Mananthavady who served as directors, in collaboration with the diocesan authorities, has given the hospital a name of its own in the medical field in Wayanad. The hospital is committed to provide the Divine cure with a human touch in its genuine Christian spirit. The hospital is ever indebted to the population in around Mananthavady and the local government bodies as well as many a private entity for the long years for their support. Indeed, we count on your continued support. In spite of the financial difficulties the diocese has always been insisting for the continued existence of the hospital taking into consideration the backwardness of the area. We are ever more committed not only in continuing its existence but also an ever better existence in tune with the changing times.
